The City of Cape Town will have stricter water restrictions implemented this week after dam levels remain at dangerously low levels.

Cape Town mayor Patricia de Lille says South Africa’s current water situation “definitely is a crisis”. She says while dams in the Cape are averaging at 40,2%, only 30% of the water can be used as a dam cannot be completely emptied.

Twenty thousand households in the city have been ignoring restrictions and measures will be taken against these households to limit their water usage, says de Lille.
