1time Airline’s decision to increase the frequency of its flights to Zanzibar, Tanzania from March 29th, will firmly establish the presence of the low cost airline in East Africa, as it will now be able to offer its passengers five flights a week into that region.
The airline will increase its current flight schedule from two flights a week to three during the months of March, April, August, September, October and December. This increase in frequency complements 1time’s recent decision to offer two flights a week from OR Tambo International Airport to Mombasa, Kenya.1time’s Commercial Director, Mike Bond, says that the decision to increase flights to Zanzibar is motivated by market trends. “Our research shows a high demand in South Africa for low cost flights to holiday destinations in East Africa, and we therefore want to provide our passengers with increased options in this regard, particularly over prime holiday periods.
“We are confident that this increase in frequency will help satisfy this burgeoning demand, and significantly strengthen our position in the local low cost carrier industry.”
1time has been flying to Zanzibar since 2007, when it began offering one morning flight a week to the East African destination in conjunction with holiday charters.
South African tourism constitutes between 8% and 10% of the Zanzibar tourist market, and offers holidaymakers good value for money, with a range of tropical paradise features such as white, sandy beaches, a variety of water sports as well as a temperate climate. Other added tourist attractions such as spice tours, swimming with dolphins and game drives are also firm favourites with visiting South Africans.
