The Bauchi State Government on Monday said that it has started refurbishing its water infrastructure to improve supply and enable more people have access to water.

Alhaji Sani Burra, the state Commissioner for Water Resources told newsmen in Bauchi that the government had ordered new equipment for water treatment from a reputable manufacturer.
“The equipment we have on ground had outlived their efficiency capability. In engineering, this equipment has a lifespan after which they must be replaced.

Burra appealed to residents to bear with the water board as it was making efforts to restore supply to the Bauchi metropolis and neighbourhood.

He cautioned people to be careful about the kind of water they drink to avoid water borne diseases.
“We will like to call on our people to be careful in the way they handle water in this period of scarcity in order to avoid water borne diseases. “The situation will be rectified very soon.”

The commissioner also reiterated the State Government’s commitment to provision of portable water through boreholes and overhead tanks.
