Making waste nice | Infrastructure news

Frances Saliwa says she “wants to make waste nice”. At 67, she has lived in the Eastern Cape all her life and says she wants to make things. She gets hold of old shoes and revamps them using banana leaves. She also makes bags, shorts, jackets, hats and lamps from these leaves. She started her little enterprise just before the World Cup in 2010 and is still going strong. She exhibited at WasteCon2012 with the support of the Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality.

She is pictured with Ms Sikweyiya from Buffalo City, seen on the left.
