Wellness campaign during Transport Month | Infrastructure news

Continuing its wellness drive during Transport Month, the Engen Driver Wellness Campaign in partnership with the Trucking Wellness visited the Engen Kempston truck Stop in Epping Cape Town, one of many stops around the country where drivers rest overnight.

At the mobile clinic, qualified nurses and counsellors tested and screened drivers from the Western Cape passing through the truck stop for diabetes, HIV and Aids. Counselling and a referral services were also provided where required.

Group corporate social investment manager at Engen, Khanyisa Balfour, says: “We are pleased to continue playing a role in informing, educating and raising awareness among drivers, as they are screened for their personal wellbeing.”

The Driver Wellness initiative is aimed at raising awareness around health issues that have a direct impact on road safety by helping drivers to manage their wellness better. During 2011, more than 400 drivers were screened at four Engen Truck Stop sites.
