The Angolan government has been focusing on the re-launch of shipping services via Secil Marítima as its public firm and flagship company, the managing director of Angola’s Maritime and Port Institute, Victor Alexandre, said Sunday in Luanda at the Expo Trans fair.

According to Alexandre, as well as Secil Marítima, a company focused on cargo transport by sea and ship management, the re-launch of the sector will also involve other companies providing passenger and goods services.

According to the managing director, studies and work are underway at Angola’s ports to increase capacity and considerably improve operations, such as by increasing the size of container parks at the ports of Lobito, Namibe, and Soyo.

Alexandre also said it was essential to build the port of Barra do Dande, in Bengo province, in order to reduce congestion at the port of Luanda.

“This future port will benefit from its proximity to the main national consumer market and links provided by the integrated transport network to the landlocked countries on the continent,” Alexandre said.

The second edition of Expotrans – Angola Transport and Logistics Fair took place from Thursday to Sunday of last week in Luanda. Companies from Angola and countries such as South Africa, Germany, Brazil, Spain, Portugal, China and Zimbabwe took part in the fair. (macauhub)
