Flooding in Limpopo (border crossings) | Infrastructure news

Due to severe flooding, the majority of low level bridges crossing the Limpopo River have been closed.

The bridge at Beitbridge border post is still currently open; however, the water level is continuing to rise and should the water pressure increase, the structural stability of the bridge cannot be guaranteed and the border may be closed. This will affect road transport heading to all northern destinations.

Drivers in Mpumalanga and KwaZulu-Natal should also be careful when approaching low-lying areas due to possible flash flooding because of the rising flood waters and care should be taken where low-level bridges are crossed.

Most of the crocodile farms in Limpopo and northern Mpumalanga have also been breached due to flooding resulting in several thousand crocodiles now “freely moving” in many rivers. Companies are advised to warn employees and drivers of this danger.
