Ekurhuleni’s Economic Development and City Planning Member of the Mayoral Committee, Clr Bennet Nikani has called on people to invest in Ekurhuleni and become part of the historical chronicle of Africa’s first Aerotropolis. “As the City of Ekurhuleni and Gauteng Province we will work hand in hand with any investor who has an appetite to invest in the region and being part of the reconfiguration of the spatial space of Ekurhuleni,” he says. Clr Nikani assured potential investors that the City of Ekurhuleni will continue to strive to be a preferred destination of choice and investment. “On our side we want to maintain service delivery in the manner that makes the city responsive to investors and the business community. In pursuance of the Aerotropolis strategy, we will take advantage of the O.R Tambo International Airport by joining leading countries who have embraced the competitive edge brought about by being Airport Cities.”In a bid to attract investors and consistent with the character of an Aerotropolis City, the municipality is committed to enhancing the municipal and provincial prosperity through improved multi-modal access and aviation-linked commercial development, making the airport, the city and the province better connected, more economically efficient, attractive and sustainable.
Meanwhile, the Ekurhuleni business has already booked its ticket for the Aerotropolis flight and thrown its heavy weight to the City’s new growth path. CEO of Ekurhuleni Business Initiative (EBI), Chris van Biljon says Ekurhuleni business supports the city’s ambitious plan. The EBI is an association of business people in Ekurhuleni boasting 3500 member companies and spans 12 years of operation in Ekurhuleni, making it the biggest voice of business in the city.
