Leading the charge for a greener transport fleet in SA | Infrastructure news

Continuing its ‘greening’ efforts – Engen Petroleum is purchasing nine new trucks which run on 50ppm cleaner automotive diesel oil (ADO).

Jeeva Chetty, national operations manager at Engen, says “This follows the company’s purchase of two new trucks in 2012, which comply with the latest European emission requirements (Euro 4 and 5).”

“It is a significant step forward for Engen’s sustainability efforts and our commitment is to eventually have only Euro 4 and 5 vehicles across our transport fleet of 220 trucks.”

Besides running cleaner fuel, the trucks also sport exhaust gas recirculation and particulate filter technology, which translates into fuel consumption savings. They are also equipped with safety features such as driver airbags and pre-tension seat belts.

The additional ‘green’ vehicles’ will be purchased in accordance with the company’s fleet replacement programme and roll-out of ADO 50ppm nationally.

Adds Chetty, “The Engen Transport Department has monitored the performance of our first two vehicles and, given their excellent efficiency and sustainability, we are set to roll-out the programme further. It is exciting to see the business evolving and matching the demands of the market and the environmental challenges we are faced with.”
