More transport companies sign the Responsible Care Commitment | Infrastructure news

Three more transport companies – Freightmax (Pty) Ltd, RB & Son Transport KZN (Pty) Ltd and U-Wing Oil – have become the latest signatories of the Chemical and Allied Industries’ Association Responsible Care Initiative, thereby committing to implement the guiding principles of this voluntary initiative of the chemical industry.

Louise Lindeque, Responsible Care Manager of the Chemical and Allied Industries’ Association says, “The safety, health, environmental and quality performance of logistical service providers that transport chemicals on behalf of the chemical sector has to be of a high standard to ensure that our products are transported safely. Responsible Care has to be extended along the logistics chain and it is therefore important that logistical service providers such as Freightmax (Pty) Ltd, RB & Son Transport KZN (Pty) Ltd and U-Wing Oil adopt and implement the Responsible Care Guiding Principles and Codes of Practice as these will add value to the company’s existing health, safety and environmental management systems.”

Brian Giddey, MD of Freightmax (Pty) Ltd adds:  “Our Company values the health and safety of our employees, the public as well as the protection of the environment. We will fulfil our Responsible Care responsibilities and will continue to demonstrate our commitment to the above aspects not only in terms of our logistical operations but also in terms of personal behaviour. Our management leads by example in order to influence worker attitudes positively and to continuously improve our company’s safety culture within the workplace.”

Freightmax (Pty) Ltd was established in 1987 as an import / export staging depot in Durban.  Freightmax’s service offering is focused on logistics of hazardous goods; including warehousing, line haul and secondary distribution, port related solutions, part load consolidation, customized rail solutions and container storage.

Alan McAslan, CEO of RB & Son Transport KZN (Pty) Ltd, states:  “We adhere to all safety requirements and will take our Responsible Care responsibilities seriously. We will continue to recognise the importance of sound environmental management and compliance with regulatory procedures regarding the transportation of chemicals and other hazardous materials.”

RB & Son Transport KZN (Pty) Ltd has been in the transport industry for over two decades. The Durban-based company’s primary function is to service all business sectors requiring general distribution locally and nationally.

Kerry Deamer, CEO of U-Wing Oil says: “Health, safety and the protection of the environment has always been a priority for our company.  Responsible Care will complement our company’s efforts in striving for improved performance in the above areas during the transport of hazardous chemicals and in our everyday operations.”

The Durban-based company specializes in logistical management and bulk transportation of petrochemicals, solvents, industrial chemicals, specialized chemicals, edible oils and vegetable based oils and is equipped to transport any bulk liquid or solid product.

The Responsible Care initiative is practised in 57 countries. In South Africa there are 144 signatories which include chemical manufacturers, transporters of dangerous goods, spill response companies and waste management companies. Responsible Care is designed to have a measurable impact on safety, health and environmental (S, H & E) performance.
