Recognising an individual whose ideas, achievements and vision has provided invaluable direction, leadership and a voice to Africa’s transport sector is the reason why Public Enterprises Minister Malusi Gigaba was named Transport Personality of the Year by Africa Rail during its 2013 conference.

In his acceptance speech, Minister Gigaba thanked the Department of Public Enterprises for their support and dedication. He also thanked State Owned Companies for their contributions to creating a better country, adding that we all have a responsibility to develop and protect railway lines.

Gigaba said, “I receive the award on behalf of the Department and its dedicated personnel. This is testimony of their hard work.”

Minister Gigaba was nominated for the strides he has made in leading the department in debates on rail, transformation in the industry, promoting safety and ensuring that the highest standards are maintained.
