Illegal sit-in staged in the city of Cape Town | Infrastructure news

Some members of staff of the City of Cape Town’s Solid Waste Management Department staged an illegal sit-in strike yesterday, 23 July 2013, according to Councillor Ernest Sonnenberg, City of Cape Town Mayoral Committee Member for Utility Services.

According to a statement released by the Integrated Strategic Communication and Branding Department, City of Cape Town, on behalf of Sonnenberg, this has unfortunately affected refuse collection in the following areas: Rondebosch; Upper Newlands; Claremont; Lansdowne; Upper Kenilworth; Thornton; Maitland; Koeberg; Pinelands; Rugby; Sanddrift; Century City; Brooklyn; Tygerhof; Joe Slovo; Killarney Gardens; Woodstock (Trade); Observatory; Sea Point; Cape Town CBD; Tamboerskloof; Langa; Vredehoek; and the Green Point CBD.

“The Solid Waste Management Department is making every effort to source resources from other areas to assist with the refuse collection beats.Residents are kindly requested to please leave their refuse bins out until the refuse has been collected.

“The City apologises for any inconvenience that this unforeseen sit-in has caused, but assures residents that it is doing its best to attend to any back-log.”
