Ekurhuleni assures that Duduza water is safe to drink | Infrastructure news

The Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM) has a released a statement assuring residents of Duduza that the water is safe to drink.

“There is no truth to the malicious rumour that surfaced last week alleging that the drinking water in Duduza could be contaminated. On the contrary, the water being supplied has never been more safe to drink,” explains municipal spokesperson Sam Modiba, assuring residents that the municipality has run further tests to confirm the quality of the water supply.

According to the statement, released early last week, the Ekurhuleni Metro’s drinking water is the best in the country. “This is confirmed by the municipality having received the Blue Drop status four years in a row and currently being recognised as number one in the country in terms of the quality of drinking water.”

In the statement, Modiba indicated that the municipality’s water quality section does bi-monthly sampling on the Duduza and Masetjaba reservoirs, Duduza South and North towers.  Three network points in Duduza are also sampled once a month. The routine results of all the monitoring points done during August 2013 complied with Drinking Water standards, SANS 24.

“Another routine sampling was done on Tuesday (10 September) and the analysis results on Friday confirmed that the water is clean and safe to drink. We furthermore confirmed with our clinics in Duduza that no incidents have been reported that could be related to any water contamination or poisoning.”

Modiba advises communities to always contact their nearest customer care centre when reports of this nature surface so that they are not unnecessarily inconvenienced by unfounded rumours. “If there was any chance that the water quality was compromised we would have been the first to advise our consumers on what to do.”
