The final day at the Southern African Energy Efficiency Convention (SAEEC) looked at mining and industrial efficiency, measurement and verification, co-generation and renewable and alternative energy.
With South Africa’s continued reliance on coal, the mining track focused on increasing efficiencies while trying to reduce losses and unlock the potential of applications. With regards to measurement and verification it was noted that consistent reporting as well as a strong emphasis on credibility and systematic approaches are needed. Co-generation was the star of the show, attracting the most interest with both local and international speakers addressing the inefficiencies of applications and exploring new opportunities for the generation of power. The progress of the fast growing renewable and alternative energy industry in South Africa was showcased in the final track, stating the case for the efficiencies of solar, wind and nuclear alternatives.Says Karel Steyn, president of the SEEE, “This event was a great success and a positive injection into the energy industry in South Africa.”
