Russian group Kamaz plans in 2016 to start building a heavy
vehicles factory in Angola in order to sell the vehicles in Southern Africa, said Dmitri Tokarev, from the Russian embassy in Angola.

Speaking to Angolan newspaper Expansão, Tokarev said that construction of the factory would take three years and that the Kamaz group would invest US$20 million in the project.

Tokarev also said that the move was part of the group’s plans to expand its business and that the group viewed Angola as a strategic place to boost its presence in Southern Africa.

Without giving details of initial production at the factory, the Russian embassy’s attaché said that construction of the factory in Angola would have a significant impact as it would build heavy vehicles for use in the construction and public works sector.

The Kamaz group is based in Naberezhnye Chelny and started
manufacturing heavy goods vehicles in 1976. (macauhub)
