Plans for Gambia’s first plastics recycling plant are underway | Infrastructure news

Plans to establish Gambia’s first plastics recycling plant are at an advanced stage.

Gamplast and the Department of Physical planning are currently working together to identify a location in the Brikama industrial area for the plant. The process of acquiring land has taken some time and prevented construction from beginning last year.

Gamplast managing director Mafuji Jatta says the recycling plant will complement the government’s efforts in waste management. He believes the initiative will be a major sanitary boost for the country because it will reduce litter on the streets. It will also promote responsible waste management and reduce environmental hazards.

Gamplasts general manager hopes that construction will be underway by April.
