Plans to build carbon dioxide plant in Zimbabwe | Infrastructure news

BOC Gases plans to construct a carbon dioxide plant at the Green Fuel ethanol plant in Chisumbanje, Zimbabwe. If established, it will have the capacity to supply the whole of Southern Africa.

Carbon dioxide is a by-product in ethanol production and can be used in several industrial processes. BOC Gases intends to purify the 300 tonnes of carbon dioxide created at Chisumbanje daily ethanol plant which is currently being released into the air.

Carbon dioxide is food and beverages, healthcare, oil recovery, metal fabrication, chemicals and wastewater industries.

The Southern African Development Community currently relies on South Africa for carbon dioxide. However the BOC carbon dioxide plant could become a potential supplier for the region.

BOC is currently conducting a feasibility study to determine the quality of the carbon dioxide and how much the plant would cost.
