The construction of 3 500 houses will soon begin in Princess Plot, Roodepoort.
The Gauteng Department of Human Settlements (DHS), the City of Johannesburg and residents of Princess Plot have reached an agreement after a meeting where houseplans of were presented to residents. DHS MEC Ntombi Mekgwe said that her department has purchased 13 out of 14 portions of land for the development of a housing project that will create 3500 houses for the qualifying residents of Princess Plot.Mekgwe said Phase 1 of the two-phasePrincess Plot project will produce 281 units.Residents took part in protest earlier this month demanding better service delivery and houses. “There was no need for them to embark in this violent protest as we had started with plans to deliver the houses. We would like to plead with the residents to rally behind the project so that it is completed on time for them to move in,” Mekgwe told SAnews.gov.za.
The contractor will be on-site from 3 February to re-establish his site office which was destroyed during protests.
