During March work begins on the first phase of renovation work at the port of Nacala in Mozambique’s Nampula province.
The $24.8 million contract was awarded to the Japanese company Penta-ocean Construction Co Ltd following a tender process in Japan under a cooperation agreement with Mozambique.Renovations at the port include paving the current general cargo terminal, repairing the concrete structure of the northern dock, plus reinforcing the pillars and the surface of the northern dock area. The contract also provides for the modernisation of the current liquid fuel terminal and installation of a fire fighting system, as well as acquiring port handling equipment such as industrial forklifts and container gantry cranes.
