Extending the number of dry docks at its sea ports is seen by the Mozambican government as an important step for the country to increase its competitiveness in order for the country to be a key economic player in the region.
Gabriel Muthisse, Mozambican Minister for Transport and Communications, says, “The users of our ports complain of long waiting periods for goods to be unloaded because of a lack of space at the ports. A lack of dry docks has further led to congestion with shipping operators waiting for long periods to load and unload their ships.”Mozambique currently has just two dry docks in the ports of Beira and Nacala.
