The Lagos Waste Management Authority is to get international knowledge | Infrastructure news

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has entered into a bilateral agreement with Knowledge Factory International (KFI) to improve waste management in Nigeria and other parts of the continent.

The main aim of the agreement is to consolidate on the work already being done in the state to ensure that the ideals of effective waste management are properly implemented within the metropolis and beyond. LAWMA is already sharing experience with other West African countries such as Ghana and Sierra Leone, but its partnership with KFI will help it faster achieve its goal of being a regional centre of excellence for waste management, not just in Nigeria but also in Africa.

KFI, a United Kingdom based organisation with branches in Kenya and Nigeria, offers organisational capacity development, knowledge transfer, and performance improvement with extensive international reach and global network of experts to help LAWMA achieve its goal. The partnership will see KFI bring its vast array of expertise in Europe, America and Asia to bolster the activities of LAWMA and enable it to exchange knowledge with similar organisations in Africa.

LAWMA’s Managing Director Ola Oresanya says, “We know the areas of our strength and the areas of our weaknesses, and we are ready and committed to move on to ensure that we surmount the areas of weaknesses and to consolidate on our strengths.” He believes the partnership is necessary to enable LAWMA to prepare for the next phase of managing waste in the state and addressing the challenges that lie ahead.

KFI United Kingdom Chairperson, Prof Chris Nwagboso says the company is proud to be associated with LAWMA. “We are very delighted that we have been invited to partner with one of the best brands in the world having impact on people’s lives in terms of the environment, in terms of waste management, and in terms of quality of life,” he says.
