A new app for blast design | Infrastructure news

A new application offers straightforward, speedy solutions to blast design difficulties.

Explosive’s company BME has developed BME Blast Calculator, an application which provides a quick and simple way of calculating a powder factor, checking charge mass per hole, estimating vibration at a point or even working out the cost of a blast.

The app aims to provide solutions to blast design difficulties for clients who do not have access to BME’s advanced blast design software BlastMapIII.

“The Blast Calculator also provides suggested design values.  For example, if you enter a hole diameter of 250 mm, the application will suggest a stemming length of 5 m. Similarly, a burden of 7 m will return a suggested spacing of 8.05 m.  If you don’t like the suggested values, it is easy to just over-type them with your own,” says BME technical director Tony Rorke.
