Construction on the north port project at Walvis Bay is set to begin as the Namibia Ports Authority (Namport) focuses on creating a bulk commodity handling facility.
Bisey Uirab, CEO of Namport, says, “The new development will be useful in terms of economic co-operation between Botswana and Namibia. The two countries are due to sign a bilateral agreement to build a railway line that will transport coal from Botswana to be exported via Namibia.” “Also part of the ports expansion is the construction of the new tanker jetty through which the country will import its fuel.”“Tenders for the tanker jetty will be awarded soon through the National Planning Commission.”
