For every engineer in South Africa there are 3 000 people, says SAICE CEO Manglin Pillay.
Pillay highlighted South Africa’s shortage of civil engineers while addressing engineering students at the University of the Witwatersrand. He pointed out the need for more engineers to take up projects for the improvement of the country.SAICE president Stanford Mkhacane, speaking at the same event, noted that there are only 30 000 civil engineering practitioners in South Africa. However, he says transformation is running smoothly in the civil engineering industry. Mkhacane pointed out that 51% of SAICE’s 18 000 members fall into the age group of 35 years and younger while 66% of the institution is black.
SAICE is committed to association with all South African universities to build the civil engineering network and to encourage engineering visions to become realities.
