Foreign transport companies have been experiencing a problem with SANRAL whilst operating their trucks on the Gauteng Freeway system.
Barney Curtis, Executive Director at FESARTA (Federation of East and Southern African Road Transport Associations) says, “Foreign companieshave not been able to access their vehicles’ toll fees details from the time the toll roads went live in Gauteng.Even if the vehicles have e-tags, the details of the charges have not been available and this has made management of the toll accounts very difficult.” Fedhaul in Zambia have been lobbying SANRAL to rectify the situation and the South African parastatal has according to FESARTA now made changes to the e-toll administrative system.Details of foreign vehicles’ charges according to Curtis should now be available on the website: www.sanral.co.za.
Curtis adds, “SANRAL can unfortunately, only go back 3 months, but at least this is better than nothing.” If foreign operators are still experiencing difficulties in sourcing their respective detailed information they should contact Curtis at ESARTA on barney@fesarta.org.
