SA hands over Limpopo Bridge | Infrastructure news

The Zimbabwean government on Monday, 16 June assumed ownership and operation of the New Limpopo Bridge. This follows the end of the 20-year Built Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement with the New Limpopo Bridge (Ltd), a company which constructed the bridge in 1994.

The ceremony was held at the duty free shop on the Zimbabwean side and was witnessed by South Africa’s Transport Minister Dipuo Peters and other top civil servants from both governments.

The Zimbabwe National Road Administration has been appointed as the tolling agents of the bridge.

Prior to the handover the New Limpopo Bridge (Ltd) had been collecting on average of US$1,6 million in revenue from toll fees per month.

The New Limpopo Bridge is the first major infrastructure project in Zimbabwe undertaken by the private sector and the Zimbabwean Government.
