As the first FAW commercial vehicle rolled off the assembly line President Jacob Zuma officially opened the new FAW Vehicle Manufacturers SA production plant in South Africa.
The new First Automobile Works (FAW) South Africa vehicle assembly plant in Port Elizabeth, in the Eastern Cape, is located on Zone 2 of the Coega IDZ.
This production plant costing R600 million was jointly funded by China FAW Group Corporation and the China-Africa Development bank. It is one of the largest investments made by a Chinese company in South Africa.
The production of up to 5000 trucks is good news for job creation in South Africa.
Zuma said, “The FAW plant in Coega is a remarkable example of the positive co-operation that we as South Africans can attract from foreign investors. It is imperative to job creation, our growth and future prosperity.”
