The Minister of Water and Sanitation Nomvula Mokonyane is hosting a two-day water and sanitation summit on 1 and 2 August.
The purpose of the summit is to bring together all stakeholders in the water and sanitation sectors to share information and create a platform for co-operation towards ensuring a co-ordinated effort for the delivery of these crucial basic services. The summit will bring together relevant government role-players such as the Minister in the Presidency responsible for Planning and Performance Monitoring, the Ministers of Science and Technology and Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs, the Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation, as well as the Executive Mayor of Ekurhuleni.The attendees will also include the heads of the relevant public entities, for example the CEO of the Water Research Commission, the CEO of Rand Water, the Acting Director-General of the Department of Water and Sanitation, together with other high ranking officials of the department, including other interested parties.
Mokonyane expects that the outcome of this summit will lead to concrete plans that will enhance the performance not only of the Department of Water and Sanitation, but also the performance of government in ensuring security of water supply and dignified sanitation for all.
