Infrastructure declaration presented at SADC summit | Infrastructure news

A draft declaration on regional infrastructure development has been presented at the SADC Summit.

The SADC Council of Ministers meeting, held in Zimbabwe, was attended by ministers from all Southern African Development Community (SADC) member states.
the theme of the 34th Ordinary SADC is: “SADC Strategy for Economic Transformation: Leveraging the Region’s Diverse Resources for Sustainable Economic and Social Development through Beneficiation and Value Addition”.

During the summit, the SADC leaders deliberated on socio-economic issues that affect the region and considered the report on the review of the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP).

Regional infrastructure development

The council has considered, approved and recommended the SADC Declaration on Regional Infrastructure Development to the summit for adoption.

It has also approved the SADC list of potential regional infrastructure investment projects to be considered for financing under the 11th EDF 2015/16 Annual Action Plan. €600 million funding has been set aside for regional infrastructure.

Other recommendations

The council has further considered, approved and recommended the following legal instruments to summit for adoption:

  • draft protocol on environment management for sustainable development
  • draft SADC protocol on employment and labour.
