Consolidating project delivery under one roof | Infrastructure news

WorleyParsons, one of the world’s largest EPCM businesses, has moved into its new South African headquarters in Melrose Arch, Johannesburg, consolidating its local project delivery capabilities under one roof.

This development effectively establishes the company as one of the largest engineering contractors in the country, offering Advisory, Select, Delivery and Improve services into sub-Saharan Africa across the of mining, hydrocarbons, power and infrastructure sectors.

“Three years ago we set out with a vision to establish a sub-Saharan African project delivery organisation and, by 2013, we had already established ourselves in projects in Mozambique, Tanzania and South Africa,” says Digby Glover, CEO of WorleyParsons RSA.

“Being intent on partnering with customers to transform the continent, we’re delivering projects across all sectors.”

Public and resource infrastructure

WorleyParsons’s infrastructure capability has two arms: public infrastructure and resource infrastructure.

“Last year we recognised that the public infrastructure side of the business, the traditional South Africa consulting operation, required a different execution model to large project delivery and that it had to consolidate it to allow us to improve our offering,” explains Glover.

“This led to a restructure of our Infrastructure business into two primary business units Resource Infrastructure, and the Public Infrastructure.”

Consolidating offerings

“Moving the project delivery offerings into a single location allows us to establish the global WorleyParsons systems processes and drive improvement on our service offerings, such as project controls and project engineering systems,” he says.

“As a local BBBEE Level 2 employer, it also gives us flexibility, by enabling a greater breadth of career development for our personnel, who can now move between the sub-sectors.”

Glover believes the consolidation of WorleyParsons’s engineering contractor arm at the Melrose Arch office sends a very clear message to the market of the company’s intent to grow its capability holding in South Africa, while providing a hub to expand the business into the greater sub-Saharan continent.

Based on its knowledge of executing projects in Africa, WorleyParsons has its sights set on leveraging this capability to ensure a greater market share within the African resource energy industry.
