Fifty-one South African businesses are participating in the fourth leg of the South African Expos in China currently taking place in Shanghai.
The expos have already been hosted in Hong Kong, Shenzhen and Chengdu, before the final leg in Beijing. The expos are showcasing South African products, the countries strategic objectives at the same time seeking to enhance exports and increase market penetration into China. During this trip the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) is also engaging potential investors in China to bring their investments to South Africa. The Acting Deputy Director-General of Trade and Investment at the dti, Yunus Hoosen met with investors and outlined the requirements and processes for them to follow in order to acquire government assistance when planning to set up in South Africa.Hoosen says, “We have a number of incentives as a country that aim to support investment in the South Africa. However, there are criteria that you need to meet in order for government can provide you with support.”
Telling investors, “The South African government has clear regulations on localisation, beneficiation and local ownership in terms of Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (BBBEE).” The fourth leg of the South African expos in China will be led by the Deputy Minister of Trade and Industry, Mzwandile Masina, who will meet with Chinese businesses to try and attract more investments into South Africa.
