Twenty two people lost their lives on Ekurhuleni Roads from 1 December to 1 January.
“The people who died included eight pedestrians, three motorcyclists, seven drivers and four passengers,” said EMPD spokesman, Chief Supt Wilfred Kgasago.“The eight pedestrians included a seven-year-old girl ran over in Tembisa and a female passenger who died on the N3 southbound near Leondale after allegedly alighting her vehicle to attend to the call of nature.”
On 30 December, Transport Minister Dipuo Peters announced that 1 143 people died in 924 crashes across the country during the festive season up to 28 December.
