The Mombasa port in East Africa, achieved a record throughput of one million TEUs in the year ending 31 December 2014.
This is a significant increase from 2013 in which 894Â 000 TEUs were handled by the port. This major milestone places it among the top 120 ports in the world out of over 5Â 000, according to managing director Gichiri Ndua.It is currently ranked among the top five container ports in Africa, he added, pointing to several notable improvements achieved in 2014.
