DA wants answers regarding e-tag roadblocks | Infrastructure news

The Democratic Alliance (DA) has demanded answers from Gauteng community safety MEC, Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane regarding two roadblocks at which motorists were apparently stopped and asked for their e-tags.

According to Ashor Sarupen, MPL, DA Gauteng constituency head Springs/Daveyton, the road blocks were manned by provincial traffic officials and SANRAL officials on Monday 5 January.

“I received a number of complaints from residents in my constituency who were asked to show their e-tags at a roadblock on the N12 East at the Atlas Road off-ramp. Motorists were reportedly questioned as to why they did not have e-tags,” he said.

He said reports on social media indicated a similar roadblock earlier that day on the N1 south at the Allandale off-ramp.
