According to Richard’s Bay Coal Terminal (RBCT) CEO, Nosipho Siwisa-Damasane, exports from the terminal reached a record level for 2014.
In 2014, the terminal shipped 71.2 million tonnes in comparison to the 70.2 million tonnes in 2013. Rail deliveries were 72.4 million tonnes, up 2.8% from 2013.This is the second year that deliveries and exports have exceeded 70 million tonnes, with RBCT targeting 74 million tonnes this year.
About 67% of 2014’s total exports went to Asia (mostly India), 25% to Europe and 6.5% to the rest of Africa. RBCT has a current capacity of 91mt a year, but the planned Phase 5 expansion would increase it to 110mt a year.
