Angola plans new airport | Infrastructure news

The director of infrastructure of Angolan airport management company Enana has announced that preliminary studies are underway for the construction of a new airport in Mbanza Congo, in Angola’s northern Zaire province.

Nataniel Domingos did not say when the work would begin but noted the airport would be located in the town of Nkiende II, 35km west of the city of Mbanza Congo.

Once it opens the new airport in the capital of Zaire province will be equipped to receive Boeing-737 aircraft as well as Angolan Air Force IL-76 aircraft.

Domingos said the new airport terminal would be capable of dealing with 600 passengers at any one time. The current airport in the centre of the city of Mbanza Congo stopped receiving medium-sized commercial aircraft due to safety concerns and the fact that it is smaller than civil aviation rules require.
