The City of Tshwane says it is confident that scheduled flights from Wonderboom Airport to Cape Town will commence in the next month.
Executive Mayor Kgosientso Ramokgopa announced in the State of the Capital Address in May that progress with regard to the introduction of scheduled flights at the airport, situated in the north of the city, was being made. He said South African Airways and Airlink had entered into a commercial joint venture for the purpose of providing new scheduled air services at the airport. These services will operate initially between Wonderboom and Cape Town, with three flights scheduled per day. The city on Wednesday said it was confident that the scheduled flights will take off without any glitches on 16 August 2015.“The media launch is scheduled for October 2015 at the Wonderboom Airport. SA Airlink has confirmed that they are ready for August 16 and everything will go ahead as planned,” said the city.
This comes after media reports suggested that plans had been put on hold due to an alleged fuel shortage issue. “The city has been engaged in talks with Air British Petroleum (BP) over the procurement of the fuel supply at the Wonderboom Airport and negotiations are at advanced stage to sign a contract with the fuel provider.” – SAnews.gov.za
