PRASA welcomes Public Protector’s report | Infrastructure news

The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (PRASA) says it notes and welcomes the conclusion and release of the much anticipated Public Protector’s Report into the managerial affairs of PRASA.

“PRASA will be studying the contents of this report over the coming few days and will, at the appropriate moment, communicate its views and related actions,” says Nathi Khena, PRASA Acting Group CEO.

PRASA says the report forms part of a range of interventions intended to improve operations at the agency and which place greater emphasis on clean governance.

The list of interventions underway includes:

  • The findings by the auditor general, which highlights irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure
  • A skills audit and
  • Verification of academic qualifications.
PRASA says it is awaiting legal opinion about prospects of recovering funds from former employees accused of falsifying their qualifications. It further states that it is considering instituting civil and criminal proceedings and blacklisting affected persons from working in the State.

“PRASA is at full steam to transform itself into a more efficient, effective and profitable company. No effort is spared to uncover and clear up fraud” says Khena.
