SADC dangerous goods transport mulled | Infrastructure news

Dangerous goods training and awareness in South Africa and in the SADC region have been placed high on the agenda for 2016.

This follows a meeting to review the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the Chemical and Allied Industry Association (CAIA) and the Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) early this month.

The MOU ensures co-operation in areas of mutual interest and is of strategic importance in terms of the safe handling and transportation of dangerous goods by rail.

It affords CAIA and the RSR the opportunity to give input into each other’s relevant functional areas and helps ensure safety and environmental protection. The document also assists with the implementation of the Responsible Care Guiding Principles for compliance with relevant legislation and standards.
