David Van Rooyen

David Van Rooyen’s property was burnt down after the local government election in 2006, when irate residents turned on their councillor, forcing him to flee the area.

David van Rooyen has been sworn in as Minister of Finance for South Africa at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.

Van Rooyen, was appointed after Nhlanhla Nene was removed from his position as Minister of Finance on Wednesday.

As he was sworn in Van Rooyen acknowledged that the economy is heading south and says he will start proper engagement with the media and the nation in due course.

Meanwhile citizens took to social media to voice their dissatisfaction with Zuma’s decision to axe Nene and instate the relatively unknown Van Rooyen.
