David Van Rooyen’s property was burnt down after the local government election in 2006, when irate residents turned on their councillor, forcing him to flee the area.
Van Rooyen, was appointed after Nhlanhla Nene was removed from his position as Minister of Finance on Wednesday. As he was sworn in Van Rooyen acknowledged that the economy is heading south and says he will start proper engagement with the media and the nation in due course.
