Gauteng Premier David Makhura, has reshuffled the Gauteng cabinet in an effort to fast track implementation

Gauteng, Premier David Makhura announced changes to the province’s Executive Council, late on Tuesday afternoon in a move to ensure that Gauteng has capacity to implement its programme to transform modernise and reindustrialise.

According to Makhura implementation is top of the Gauteng government’s agenda and reshuffling the Gauteng cabinet will ensure that the capacity to deliver and implement is strengthened.

Former Gauteng Premier, Paul Mashatile will take over the reins at the department of Human Settlements.

“Over the next two days, Mashatile will resign as a member of parliament to take up his position in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature,” Makhura said.

Nandi Mayathula Khoza will return to the Social Development portfolio. During her previous tenure in this portfolio she introduced important programmes focusing on senior citizens and township cooperatives.

Jacob Mamabolo, who served as Gauteng MEC of Human Settlements, will now move to the department of Infrastructure Development.

The new cabinet will meet in the coming weeks to reflect on the economy and to discuss ways in which to turn it around.

“I recently met with various experts where we discussed ways of revitalising the economy. The inputs received will be considered to discuss interventions needed to grow Gauteng’s economy,” Makhura concluded.
