TPT sends team to Port of Cotonou | Infrastructure news

Transnet Port Terminals (TPT) will send a project team to Benin to kick-start the stabilisation phase of the BeniSA Maritime project.

The team will be onsite in the Port of Cotonou for the next 12 months to execute key deliverables of the project. They are tasked with cleaning up existing operational processes at SOBEMAP (Societe Bennoise Des Manutentions Portuaires), implementing a new terminal layout plan and safety culture, reviewing and revising standard operating procedures and implementing the GCOS system, to be supplied and installed by TPT.

Detailed deliverables for the entire project entail implementing new container configurations to facilitate container volume growth; training and implementation of the GCOS3 container module, moving from manual operation to full automation; and finally – skills development of SOBEMAP employees through personalised training at Transnet Academy’s Maritime School of Excellence.

The BeniSA Maritime Project is a partnership with Transnet and SOBEMAP, which is in line with Transnet’s Africa strategy of defending and growing Transnet’s customer base, diversifying its current income streams and looking for new business on the continent.

“Our aim is to increase our presence in Africa through the provision of operational, technical and information systems advice to other terminals and to facilitate intermodal connectivity for existing and new markets in the region,” explains TPT’s CE, Karl Socikwa.
