Bokashi Garden

The Probio Bokashi Composting System includes Bokashi and a Probio Bokashi Composter bin that makes composting easy by turning waste from the kitchen into organic soil conditioner

A South African product developer and producer of non-toxic, fully biodegradable and sustainable probiotic based chemical alternatives have been recognised by the annual Eco-Logic Awards for its commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Probio will officially receive the Certificate of Merit in The Climate Change Award category on 21 April 2016 at a gala event to be held at The Table Bay Hotel, Cape Town.

In diverting food waste from landfills, the company collaborated with local households, businesses and communities to reduce their carbon footprint by turning waste into a valuable resource, using the Probio Bokashi Composting System.

The result is a notable reduction of over 46 000 tons of waste from landfills and over 10 000 tons of methane from the atmosphere since 2012.

The Probio Bokashi Composting System

Driven by a passion for the environment and advocating ecological accountability for all, Probio’s composting system combines the power of beneficial micro-organisms with the technological advances of applied science.

The Probio Bokashi Composting System includes Bokashi (wheat bran that has been inoculated with beneficial probiotic microbes) and a Probio Bokashi Composter bin that makes composting easy by turning waste from the kitchen into organic soil conditioner.

The system is fast, space-conscious and ensures that food waste is treated in a quick and easy manner that does not release unpleasant odours.

In addition, the composting system contains no hazardous ingredients that are harmful to humans, animals and plants.

The Eco-Logic Awards, hosted by The Enviropaedia, identify and give recognition to individuals, organisations, products and services that are making a real and measurable difference in creating a more sustainable world.

Probio was also previously acknowledged by the Awards in 2014 when they received a Certificate of Merit in The Recycling Award category as an organisation contributing to a greater public understanding and participation in waste reduction, reuse and recycling.
