Eskom has reached an agreement with three Mpumalanga municipalities who had defaulted on their payments to the utility.

In a statement, the utility said over the past few weeks it had been engaging with the municipalities.

“We are pleased to report that we have reached principle agreements with the following three municipalities in the province: Chief Albert Luthuli, Mkhondo and Thaba Chweu local municipalities,” said the power utility.

The power utility said it will continue to engage the remaining four municipalities namely Goven Mbeki, Lekwa, Emakhazeni and Nkomazi local municipality.

“We are confident that the parties will reach reasonable repayment agreements. However, should the agreements not be concluded within the week, Eskom will continue with the disconnection process,” said Eskom.

The power utility is also finalising discussions with the eMalahleni local municipality and is positive an agreement will be concluded soon.
