Siemens South Africa electrifies vehicle fleet | Infrastructure news

Eqstra Fleet Management (EFM) has facilitated the leasing of the first electric BMW i3 vehicles on behalf of Siemens SA.

The vehicles were made available to the company at their offices in Midrand, Johannesburg, at the beginning of April. The BMW’s are almost emission-free and have a range of approximately 300km, which suits the company’s requirements as the cars will initially only be used in Gauteng.

“We have procured these vehicles on behalf of Siemens SA, in line with their international policy of becoming carbon neutral by 2030,” says Murray Price, managing director of EFM.

Gershon Monk, procurement head of Siemens SA says the company is “continuing to reduce their vehicle fleet’s fuel consumption by incentivising the procurement of economical electric cars, and that Siemens SA had set a target for reducing its current carbon footprint of 2,2 million metric tons per year by half in 2020.”
