Amon Nyamhingura has been appointed Responsible Care Manager at CAIA

Two new permanent appointments have been announced by the Chemical and Allied Industries’ Association (CAIA). ReSource welcomes Dr Mlu Ganto and Amon Nyamhingura to South Africa’s most influential industry body in the chemical manufacturing and transport space.

Ganto has been appointed Head: Regulatory Affairs at CAIA with effect from 1 August this year. Ganto holds a doctorate in chemistry, and his previous positions include that of candidate attorney at Adams & Adams Patents Department, researcher at the CSIR Biosciences Unit and post-doctoral research fellow at ICS-UNIDO in Trieste, Italy.

Nyamhingura has been appointed Responsible Care Manager at CAIA with effect from 1 August this year. Nyamhingura holds an MSc in chemistry and will be responsible for overseeing the implementation and maintenance of the CAIA’s trademarked Responsible Care initiative in South Africa.

CAIA has 164 members including chemical manufacturers, traders and industry service providers.

As an association that forms part of a worldwide network of chemical industry associations, CAIA promotes continuous improvement of performance in the safety, health and environmental arenas as well as to boost productivity and competitiveness of the chemical and allied industries in South Africa.

Members are mainly big and medium size companies drawn from base chemicals, fertilizers, plastics in primary form, pesticides and other agricultural products, explosives and speciality chemicals.

Primary goals

CAIA’s primary goals are to promote its Responsible Care initiative, to earn public trust for the chemical industry, to improve the efficiency of its advocacy efforts, to support education initiatives in science, engineering and technology and to create maximum value for member companies.
