The farm, which is supported by a 20-year power supply agreement with Eskom was built by multinational energy company Enel which has 740 plants in 15 countries around the globe.
“Successfully reaching full capacity at our first wind farm in SA represents the expansion of our capability in the country to both solar PV and wind projects,” Bill Price, Enel’s local manager said. Just 165 km north of the windy city of Port Elizabeth, shiny new wind turbines are set to begin production at the Nojoli wind farm. The new wind farm was completed earlier this week and boasts 44 Vestas V100 2 MW wind turbine generators and will host a total installed capacity of 88 MW. The farm is the latest project contributing to the South African Renewable Independent Power Producer Procurement Programme and will be able to generate more than 275 GWh per year. This is equivalent to the annual consumption needs of approximately 86,000 South African homes. The farm will also assist in decreasing CO2 emissions by more than 251 000 tonnes each year.
