South Africa’s large mining operations make South Africa one of the most power-hungry economies in the world. However this industry is being fed by a an aging and increasingly unreliable batch of coal fired power plants that struggle to supply almost 90% of the country’s electricity needs. Government is now exploring building several nuclear plants to stabilise supply.
