New online platform to help foster innovative water solutions | Infrastructure news

climate change

On the eve of the COP21 conference, 184 countries covering around 95 per cent of global greenhouse gas emissions had delivered their national climate action plans to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

Through an online portal, an organisation called Waterforeveryone has provided a platform for communities and organisations to develop innovative approaches to improve access to fresh and safe water, as well as share knowledge and raise global awareness.

The platform allows individuals and organisations, both public and private, to connect with one another and share their knowledge and expertise, support existing concrete initiatives and create new ones, promote innovative solutions, and contribute to the online resource centre by posting articles, news, research findings etc.

Waterforeveryone is a non-profit organisation registered in Switzerland. It was developed by a multidisciplinary group of professionals who aim to increase the amount and access of clean water available to millions of people across the planet.

“With more than 10% of the world’s population not having access to safe, drinkable water, there is more we can do to help alleviate this statistic,” said Mathieu Lamolle, founder of Waterforeveryone. “We strongly believe that every step counts to find out effective and sustainable local solutions for this global challenge.”

Lamolle said the purpose of this community platform is to educate people while encouraging collaborations for a more efficient end goal.

“Waterforeveryone will directly contribute to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: SDG3 (Good health and well-being), SDG6 (Clean water and sanitation), SDG9 (Industry, innovation and infrastructure), SDG11 (Sustainable cities and communities), SDG12 (Responsible consumption and production), and 17 (Partnerships for the Goals),” he said.

Crowdfunding tool

To assist with getting projects off the ground and actually seeing them through, the portal supports a crowdfunding mechanism.

This tool enables online members to run fundraising campaigns for their initiatives. These campaigns will focus on how to develop and implement sustainable solutions in order to tackle water related issues. The platform will also serve to promote collaboration on projects across countries around the world.

The organisation invites everyone to join the global community to spur innovation, knowledge and successful projects.

“We strongly believe that every step counts and so does every drop: your support will contribute to help thousands, if not millions of people,” the organisation said.

Registration to Waterforeveryone is free.
