Royal HaskoningDHV honoured at SAICE Awards | Infrastructure news

Royal HaskoningDHV has once again received top honours by winning the award for the Most Outstanding Water Engineering Project at the South African Institution of Civil Engineers (SAICE) Southern Cape Regional Awards for the Kleinkrantz Waste Water Treatment Works

The Kleinkrantz Waste Water Treatment Works recently scooped top honours at the South African Institution of Civil Engineers (SAICE) Southern Cape Regional Awards, walking away with the award for the Most Outstanding Water Engineering Project.

The project showcased how collaboration between different parties and the use of innovation and adaptability is able to create improved infrastructure for the benefit of the community.

The George Municipality commissioned Royal HaskoningDHV to design and manage the project. The plant, which treats effluent from Wilderness and surrounds, was originally commissioned in 1995.

Over the last twenty years the population in the area increased and new neighbourhoods were connected.

Reusing old parts

During construction, the design was adapted to re-use parts of old structures that were excavated on site. This allowed savings on the project that could be utilised for additional improvements to the works.

A joint venture of Khubeka Construction and Huber Technology were appointed as contractors on the project.

The awards were handed out at a gala dinner held on the 27th October at Fancourt near George.
