Over the last twenty years the population in the area increased and new neighbourhoods were connected.
The Kleinkrantz Waste Water Treatment Works recently scooped top honours at the South African Institution of Civil Engineers (SAICE) Southern Cape Regional Awards, walking away with the award for the Most Outstanding Water Engineering Project. The project showcased how collaboration between different parties and the use of innovation and adaptability is able to create improved infrastructure for the benefit of the community. The George Municipality commissioned Royal HaskoningDHV to design and manage the project. The plant, which treats effluent from Wilderness and surrounds, was originally commissioned in 1995.
